wierd pressing patterns in streams

alot of the time when im watching saintvicious' stream spefically but i've heard it on other streams they press whatever hotkey they have for an ability in a wierd sporadic way. it almost sounds like a gallop sometimes, and i was wondering if there was a purpose for doing this over just rapidly pressing the button.
