MadMint (mint 9 xfce accidentally spliced with MadBox linux...oops.)
Ok, this is extremely strange. I have an older p4 that i've been playing around with just trying different distro's to see if I like anything new out there. Well I wanted to try MadBox which claims to be pretty light weight but still have a good feel, look, and power. It never booted right. X never came up and there was no intuitive way to drop to command line to fix what ever problem x was seeing plus I wasn't interested enough to bother with it anyway. I just wanted to get my favorite mint back on here because I was done playing around and I was firmly satisfied that still nothing beats mint. Well, I had made the madbox boot usb in unetbootin like i always do. I fired up unetbootin and got mint 9 xfce back on there. Well here's the crazy part. When I booted mint 9 back up, I was greeted with a slim login screen. Huh? When did mint use slim? Well ok, i put in the login mint and blank password (i was also thinking when did mint require login and password on the live cd too). After loading x, i found that I was looking at Madbox's desktop! I must not have actually put mint on here yet but wait...i just saw the classic mint boot up splash (green dots), I just used mint's login and pass, and yes...now that i look in the menu there's the option to "install linux mint" as well as mint's other usual menu items. So, I'm actually looking at linux mint xfce live cd with all the features of Madbox's openbox desktop. Now, I can understand if the unetbootin fouls up and copies some files in the wrong place but I'd expect a fubar like that not to boot at all. Instead I got a near perfect splice of two distro's. Sadly, the "install linux mint" menu item doesn't function and I don't know how to install it on my drive because it's actually pretty cool. i wanted to keep the crazy accidental madmint baby! After just one aptitude update it broke my demon hybrid baby and crashed :(
