Domain showing up as "taken" but no WHOIS info in database

I found a 5 character domain name I would like to use. No matter what WHOIS database I search, from Godaddy to DomainTools, etc, it ALWAYS shows up as "No whois available" or "This domain is not registered". However, if I go to Namecheap or any other registrar, it shows up as "Taken", but still will not let me whois it. What is going on?

EDIT: I just found out. It is in redemption period. Has been since October 24th of this year. How long are domains in redemption period, and how can I backorder it so I can be the first to snag it as soon as it expires.
