Comcast cable (tv) with a motorola modem. Use it for Ethernet?

When I connect it up, the default page on safari becomes a "set up comcast Ethernet" site. Obviously there is a connection, is there any way to get around the set up / paying more money? I just want to use the comcast tv cable as cable Ethernet instead. Is this possible?
