What do/don't you like about the tournaments you play in?

The background behind this question: I've been a certified judge for just over 7 years, scorekept for just over 1 year at the PTQ+ level, and during this ride have also pretty much done every job in the book when it comes to running an event. I've also done some programming on utilities which are used by a few organizers to speed up and improve events.

My full question to you is this: what is it about tournaments in your area that you like, and what do you dislike?

  • Are the tournaments too slow? (or, dare I say, too fast)
  • Are the staff friendly/unfriendly/biased/non-existent? Do they feel like they know what they're doing?
  • Is there something that you just don't understand why a judge/organizer does it the way they do it?
  • Are there any ideas you have that you think would make a tournament better?

My purpose for asking this is primarily two-fold. On one hand, it's a chance to help explain about tournament operations. On another, it's a chance to hear about the things that make Magic good (or bad) in your area.
