In a lot of threads here, people get attacked for pirating. Anyone up for a discussion about it?

Personally, my justification is that before my kindle, I either read at the library or I bought used.

I bought a kindle because I couldn't afford my book accumulation (I have well over 1000 and am 21) and immediately justified it by selling a bunch back to amazon. These are books that I bought used (the author never saw any of that money) and sold to amazon, who resold them used.

I rarely buy a new book, but that rate hasn't gone down since buying a kindle. In fact I think it has gone up- partially to replace the lack of buying used, and partly because I'm reading even more than I did previously. The reality is that books I would buy used or take out from the library are available for ridiculous prices on amazon, so I pirate them and really don't feel bad about it. I only feel badly for the authors because their asshat publishers have not figured out a way to monetize my insatiable reading habits, whether or not I'm using a kindle/computer.

Thoughts?
