When Solving Quadratic Inequalities Why are some solutions "or equal to", rather than just "greater than" or "less than"?

When Solving Quadratic Inequalities Why are some solutions "or equal to", rather than just "greater than" or "less than"?

For example, why is the solution to x^2 -2x-63 come out as the following:

x>9 or x<-7 rather than -7>x>9

EDIT: my mistake I meant: x^2 -2x-63 > 0

Also, What I'm asking is why do you write some solution separated with "or" like x>9 or x<-7 rather than -7>x>9
