Does anyone else feel that the term "musician" is being used too generously?

I mean seriously, does anyone feel that techno and electronic "musicians" aren't musicians at all, just people who make a catchy beat on a computer program. I was once told by Dick Dale, " If you have a good amp, you don't need any pedals." I think he is correct, because look, The Edge from U2 has more pedals than a car factory and just uses them to seemingly play 2 or 3 notes for a whole song.
