A question about fit on mid calf boots

I got really lucky this year and received this pair of Frye boots in a dark brown for Christmas. I thought at a 13.5 circumference it would fit my tiny calves pretty well, but it's still a bit big. Does it look all right for midcalf boots to be a little loose? Or does it need to fit almost to your skin like riding boots?

I would hate to have to return them since they're awesome quality boots, and I own absolutely no calf length boots due to it being near impossible to find boots that fit my small calves. I'd appreciate any advice on finding narrow boots, also. It's extremely frustrating.
