r/Teachers, I'm feeling frustrated with the road to becoming a teacher.

I'm currently in my second year of my undergraduate degree with a major in history and a minor in educational studies. I don't mean to offend anyone, but I hate the way social sciences education is laid out when someone is looking to become secondary-ed teacher, so I'm opting for a more non-traditional route that I've found has yielded some of the best teachers I've ever had.

The problem is I seem to be hitting a brick wall when I try to get information on where to go from here. I know it's entirely possible, but I can't for the life of me get information from professors or advisors on what classes I should take as electives in my minor to better prepare me for certification, particularly in Texas (where I went to high school and where my permanent residence is and all my family). Some of the classes I'm required to take already are "The Dynamics of American Education," "Diversity, Difference, and Advocacy in Education," and "Issues in Educational Policy: The Historical Trajectory of Education Reform." I don't know anything about these classes other than their titles since I haven't gotten to them yet, I plan to starting in the fall since I'll be down to only my major and minor requirements, totally done with general ed except for one writing course (which can be fulfilled at the same time as a major course if I pick the right class).

I know this is really vague but is there any insight anyone, particularly a Texas teacher, could give me into where to go from here and what to do when I graduate with a degree that's NOT from the college of education? How can I prep for the certification test when most of that is probably going to be post-graduation (I go to school in Alabama so I can't trust them to give me the tools I need to be certified elsewhere)?

It's just so overwhelming. I know for certain that this is my calling. I have never been so sure of something in my life, and I want to make sure I do it right.
