Need help, new to MIDI

I know this is probably really dumb of me, but I recently purchased an Akai LPK25 MIDI keyboard, and am attempting to use it to play virtual instruments in Mixcraft. I tried recording with the keyboard, but I can't get it to make any sound, or output anything to the track. Any advice? I'd really like to get it working.
