Repairing credit - removing collections

Putting myself through college, let a few bills get way overdue and they reported them to the CRA's =(

4 of them are medical bills and I've read things about the HIPAA process and the "one-two punch" but when I try to find instructions on these, they're very confusing and not very straight-forward.

The 5th collection is from Verizon, and I have no idea what to do about that one aside from call their credit department and try to work something out.

If anyone has some expertise in this area, or has successfully fixed their credit by removing collections, please let me know what I should do, and help others fix theirs!
