Ask r/Movies: Does anyone have a suggestion for software that I can use to catalog my movies?

Hey Reddit,

I'm just finishing graduate school and moving into my own place. I'm packing up my stuff, and realizing that All of my movies and video games take up quite a bit of space. This is a problem for me, because I'm moving into a much smaller place than where I currently live.

As much as it pains me to do it, because I love having all of the movies and games in their original boxes, I think the best solution for me is to get some kind of big binder to hold all of my discs in, and then have some kind of software for cataloging everything, so that I can easily see and sort through everything that I have, and decide what to watch/play.

Does anyone have a suggestion for some software that can do this. Preferably some free or open source software? The operating system isn't important, but I would prefer something that ran on Windows, as that is my primary machine.

And before anyone suggests it, I'm not willing to rip everything onto a hard drive and get rid of the discs completely, for a number of reasons. The most important of which is that I don't have a blu-ray drive in my PC, so I can't rip those without buying new hardware. That's a project for another time.

tl;dr: I'm looking for suggestions for some (preferably free) software that will catalog my movie and game collections so that I can get rid of all of my dvd and game cases.
