For those with Backpacks

Discussion

Hey everyone, I want to know what kind of backpack would be a good starting choice.

I currently use an old discraft sidebag that I absolutely love but as of lately, I am thinking switching to a backpack for more comfy rounds and more storage space.

Should I start off with a "starter" bag like the DD Trooper or should I save up and get a Grip EX or Pound? I currently bag 13 discs but I would love to have some more space for like a hoodie or a rain jacket.

Thanks for the input and I hope everyone has a good round or two this week!

I have a Trooper and I think it's great. Water bottle pocket, moderate storage, and reasonably priced

Some people don't like it because it doesn't have a ton of storage for snacks and 6-packs and it doesn't have structure, but I really like it. Especially for the price.

Second the Trooper loved mine before upgrading to a DD Combat Ranger

Check out Doth Savek's channel.. That will help you get a feeling of cost value for a wide spectrum of bags. I like to tell people to start with his DD Commander review. I just got a Paratrooper and while it's not perfect, I think it's a great value at the price. I am super curious what Grip is supposedly releasing soon.

Doth is the man! Wish he posted a little bit more though.

When I carry a bag it's generally a Trooper.
Even the Trooper will hold 27 if I load it up. I've used the Trooper at 10,000 foot courses with elevation like Muddy Run in Penn. and short technical tracks like The Sinks in Tenn.

I can afford anything. My normal rig is a Prodiscus Jetpack 30+ on an Zuca EZ Cart. With that I can take everything I need, and up to ~50 discs if I want to.

For 40$ the Trooper is a steal.

Fossa skinny. It’s remarkable and $109

I second the skinny 2. Went from a shoulder bag, to an innova adventure, to the fossa. It's comfy, relatively light and holds an aggressive amount. I typically have the bottom half halfway filled and throw a coat and bottle in there. Comes with a rainfly too.

I’ve had a grip, upper park shift, bpv2, latitude easy go, and a zuca. I’ve also had a $400 pound bag. The pound is an ideal purchase-if you have $400+. The fossa doesn’t hold as many discs, which for me is good. 20 is plenty. They’re far more accessible, and lighter.

I use the mvp voyager light. It’s so comfortable, spacious, and looks good.

Thin jacket or thin hoody does fit, i usually end up stuffing minenin the 2nd cup holder though.

Other than that love my voyager lite. 80 on amazon a d a lifetime warranty.

Yeah that’s fair. I usually just tie mine around my waist.

I made my choice on being able to carry 20 discs, several beers and a hoodie. There’s only a few bags under 200 that meet that criteria.

This is a personal preference, but when I was ready to move on from my old backpack (not disc bag) I used to an official bag i just went straight for the grip ax3. I figured, knowing myself, if I bought a <$100 bag I would start regretting not spending the money on a nice bag sooner.

Check out the Upper Park Disc Golf Pinch.

Love my pinch. Holds plenty of discs, has room for water bottle and snacks (maybe even a light jacket depending on how many discs you carry) and instead of having the useless flap that ticks inside or hangs in front of your discs, they made it into a pocket that can hold 2-4 discs.

I found the Trooper to be pretty cheap, and prone to tipping over. I didn’t want to drop 200-500$ on a Grip or Pound.

A middle range option that I really like is the DD commander. About 125$, comfortable, great storage and disc access.

DD Commander all day, all day. Literally zero complaints.

a bag like the dd trooper would be a solid option if side pocket storage isnt a huge deal to you but, its almost necessary to make a pvc frame to insert into the bag to prevent tipping. (i followed a tutorial from an old post here for my old trooper)

for 35$ im not sure you can beat this bag. Some reviews on it say it has cheap zippers and they are fairly cheap but I mostly keep the disc flap open so its not like it matters to me too much.

Link doesn’t work. What was it?

Huh that’s odd, it’s the axiom discs shuttle bag. Though op said room for a hoodie, this one I can kinda fit one in the disc slot above the discs.

Id say splurge a $150-200 and get a Ranger or Ranger clone.

Give yourself disc capacity, beer and accessories capacity, and a basic tournament bag.
