Why LGBT?

as opposed to LGBTS? As a straight male, I don't want to be discriminated against either. Isn't the entire ideology behind LGBT to teach us to be accepting towards everyone regardless of an individuals sexual orientation? Thus, shouldn't straight be included as well? Or am I totally missing a key point here? Just a thought I had after seeing an LGBT pride ad on my way to class.
