is the roor, illadelph dominance over in high quality glass?

i see much more people talking about toro, sov, luke wilson in these circles than the roors and illadelphs. I guess simplicity in design has progressed to function. are these fancy percolators worth the hooha. I smoked a luke wilson 12 arm once and the hits were cooler but lots of drag, and cant really pass it around because people just torch the whole bowl. i have nice glass a zob and a medicali, and just invested in my first ashcatcher but is the full blown triple perc, 12 arm, cerc de cercs really worth the extra cash if so why?
