IAmA person who tests at very high IQ but who also has crippling ADD. AMA (x-post from AskReddit on suggestion)

I hear the anecdote that people with ADD tend to be more intelligent all the time, but I have heard varying reports as far as actual statistics are concerned. Basically, once I figure the trick to a problem out, I'm off to another one. Often, this does not work out for me well in school, as you might imagine, but it doesn't really interfere with IQ tests. I can barely read a paragraph, but consistently score 160+ on verbal reasoning tests meant to correlate raw score to IQ. I do significantly better than that in spatial reasoning. And so on and so forth. I often cannot recall common words. I don't know whether my experience is nominal aphasia or dysnomia. However, I can solve problems I have never seen before in areas of math that I have not been introduced to by looking at them...sometimes. It isn't under my control. School is an absolute nightmare: I forget to turn in stuff, forget I have tests, get frustrated with morons, and generally become disinterested with my situation very quickly. My grades go from 4.0 to garbage, and, in the past, I have simply supplanted school with drugs and crime to pass the time. I am somewhat ashamed of this, as I feel that I could be accomplishing more, but the world is so slow. I have seen an array of doctors about this. It is INFURIATING to not have control over your brain. It is even more infuriating, denoted by lower case, to have people scoff at your disability. ADD has been over-diagnosed, like depression or OCD, and, everyone seems to think that they have it because they forget their car keys. Please omit the "ADD is fake, because back in my day my daddy ass-raped me, and we sat quietly and did our homework" comments. I have heard them. You are wrong. I really just want to start a conversation about this. If this post is too self-gratifying and not really a good piece, I will remove it; honesty is fine.
