Hurt? Try ice massage! (do not say with southern accent)
If you've got any sort of injury (or even chronic muscle or joint pain), I think you might like ice massage: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KcqcC83AaBo
Learning about this, and then using it on my massage clients, has been like a revelation for me. It just works so much better than static ice application: it feels better, it's quicker, and I swear it has magic healing powers. If you don't feel like watching the video: wrap a piece of ice in a washcloth, briskly (and lightly) rub the area with ice for about 3-4 seconds, then wipe the water away. Repeat for a few minutes in the immediate and surrounding areas, until you're pretty numb. That's it, you're done.
I recommend 2 times per day, with one of those sessions immediately after whatever activity is causing you the pain. Don't overdo it, and consider making bigger chunks of ice (frozen dixie cups) for larger areas. Note: the wiping is important, as it increases the rate of heat loss. This translates to faster cooling of underlying structures, if the general trend of this study can be extended to different kinds of icing.
Anyway, I see a lot of injuries on here, and I think that this can help. I'd like to see comments from people who have tried this, and what you thought of it.
