Things are going great, and then *BAM* - Need mature male advice please :)
Hi Reddit - long time lurker, first time poster...
I'm 27, he's 30. This is a new situation for me, a little bit off the beaten path of the "he's just not that into you" scenarios I usually deal with, so I need a bit of help with this one.
We met about 2 weeks ago briefly through a mutual friend, have been talking/texting every day since and over the holidays. Even though we hadn't really spent any time in person aside from the brief initial meet, after talking for about 3-4 days and having some good conversation, he started to get pretty forward with how he felt about me. Talked about what we would do if we were dating, meeting each others friends and family etc... very interested, genuine, seemed very mature about what he wants out of life. We're very much on the same page about a lot of the fundamentals.
I was a bit hesitant about this at first - found out that he had broken up with his previous GF a few months back, they were together just over 6 months. Around a week ago we had a serious conversation about this, I wanted to make sure that I wasn't a rebound, that he was ready to meet new people and wasn't just going through that phase with me. He assured me that he wouldn't have pursued me if that was the case, so that was that.
Things stayed really good, and we finally got a chance to spend some in-person time together last night after the craziness of the holidays died down. He took me to dinner, asked me if I'd come back to watch a movie with him and I did. He had to work this morning so I left after the movie, he went in for the goodbye kiss twice and so I thought things were cool.
Talked to him this morning, like we usually do each day. He was super hesitant. Asked him how he had felt about the date and he said "I'm not 100% sure how to feel, you're my first date since my ex - I felt kinda awkward, I think it's just going to take some getting used to". He also mentioned that I wasn't as outgoing as I normally am in our conversations - to which I replied that there's a certain amount of nervousness I experience on a first date, and it's a bit tougher to be yourself right away in person, so those things sometimes need time.
I asked him how he felt about us and if he wanted to keep seeing each other and he didn't respond with a yes or a no, but instead asked me how I felt about him. I told him that I felt comfortable around him, that I liked his company, and that I wanted to see him again without the first-date nervousness and really start to get to know him. I told him that he could tell me how he felt, and that it was ok to be honest if he just wasn't interested, that I just wanted to know where he was at. He told me we'd discuss it after work.
That was at 1:30 this afternoon. Haven't heard from him since. Which isn't entirely unusual in itself, but considering he would be in touch with me all day every day up until now, it's a definite departure from the usual, and I know he's avoiding the conversation.
Not 100% what went wrong, or what I should do next. Not sure if he was turned off by something that happened during the date, the fact that I wasn't my usual confidant self because of first-date shyness? You could've fooled me, not sure why he would invite me back for a move and go in for 2 post-date kisses if he thought it sucked.
One of my friends figures that he maybe has unrealistic expectations that somehow magically everything was going to fall into place. Now I'm super depressed, not sure if I should try and contact him one more time to offer up a second fun date and try to reassure him? I feel like we could really work out. So confused.
TL;DR - I(27) meet guy(30) super mature adult relationship, he's totally all over it for 2 weeks, date goes great, next day dude won't talk to me or tell me where he's at.
