Does anyone know of any sites similar to Freecycle?

I know this has been asked here before, but they didn't seem to go anywhere. I already know about and use craigslist, so save your keystrokes. :P If you want to know why I don't just use Freecycle, here's the story:

I was a member on Freecycle before I moved from the east coast a little over a year ago. I requested to join the local group, responded to their automated request for information right after, and then heard nothing back. I did that on 11/3. I've sent the owner emails to check the status of my still pending request on 11/8 and 12/22, but I still haven't heard anything. Last night, I sent an email to help@freecycle.org to see if someone can resolve it, but I still have yet to hear from them -- I don't expect them to answer my email either, though.

Earlier tonight, I googled not getting responses from Freecycle to see if anyone else experienced this and how they resolved it. The first three pages of results listed mostly sites about what poor experiences people had with some of Freecycle's mods, who seem to have let the power get to their heads. It's a shame; the idea of Freecycle is great. I don't know if I'm dealing with that (who knows, maybe they thought two inquiries in two months' time is too many times), but I don't know what the owner's deal is. So I'm looking for alternatives in the meantime.

I've seen freegle, but it looks like it's for the UK (I live in the US).

Does anyone have any other suggestions?

tl;dr - I requested to join my local group almost two months ago and the mod isn't getting back to me or even declining my request, so I'm looking for an alternative for now.

Update: 01/17/2012 -- I'm sure no one's checking this, but I wanted to let anyone who stumbles upon this to know that someone got in touch with me from help@freecycle.org and they emailed the mods. After a couple more weeks of receiving nothing, today -- 2.5 months later -- they finally sent me automated emails and approved my request. They never addressed why they did not respond to my emails. If they're ignoring members, I hope everything goes okay from here so I don't have to try to contact them again.
