US TV/Internet Prices
To begin with, I wasn't completely sure whether to post this in technology or politics, but I think politics is more fitting. I am in the process of moving and shopping for the best TV/Internet deals. I currently pay ~$140/month for Cable/Internet through TimeWarner. I have HD, DVR and no premium channels (HBO, etc). My internet is RoadRunner Extreme at 30mbps/5mbps. I am nearing the end of my 2 year contract so I'm paying early 2010 prices. This price will most certainly increase substantially.
While doing some research, I came across this article. In Europe, some places are getting internet that is 2-3 times faster than what I have, which is faster than 88% of the US according to Speedtest.net. The article states they are paying about $56 per month, and that includes TV and phone. So, we are paying 2-3 times more for service that is 2-3 times slower.
I bring this here because this needs to change! As is evidenced by recent news (namely the Forbes article on how reddit influenced GoDaddy and is moving toward Congress), this community knows how to get things done. I don't know exactly where to start, but I am willing to work. There is no reason we should be this far behind in internet speeds and so far ahead in what it costs. I imagine this is along the same lines as corporations influencing Congress. I hope this issue gets some attention, whether from this post or someone else's.
