Is Talon a good purchase?

Hi there

I have some leftover Christmas RP and I was looking to spend on one more champion while I can still play consistently (my university's server has problems with LoL).

I bought Maokai and have a lot of fun supporting and getting my team kills, but now I'm looking to find a champ that I can get kills with myself. My concerns with Talon are that he's only good at assassinating squishies, and that if I were to lane against a relatively tanky lane I would be shut down completely.

Just looking for opinions on this / on Talon in general. Thanks (:

PS waiting for a sale isn't really an option since, as I mentioned, I can't play consistently at university so I want to get the time in now
