For the men, how do girls choose the right guys?

Alright, so being a girl I realize I automatically get the easier end of the deal: men pursue, they message me, etc. Guys on here, and my male friends who use OKC as well, complain that women just don't respond to them. Sorry about this. If I could find you all lovely redditor women I would. My question, however, on the behalf of females, is how do you choose who to respond to? What distinguishes the people you've had great in-person encounters with?

I've met a number of guys but none have worked out for more than 4 or 5 dates. Most make pretty poor first dates (ex. the man who told me I didn't seem "too smart" like his ex, the one who tried to take me shopping because that's what girls like or the guy who got so nervous he ended a date with a high-five). I hate the idea of not giving someone a chance because they're not super attractive in their pictures or our match percentage isn't in the nineties but I'm not sure what the right criteria is. Do you go with your gut? Follow the percentages? Throw darts?

To put some numbers to it for the mathematically inclined: I guess I had the profile thing down alright since when I was logging on to OKC every couple of days I'd get about 3 decently written messages from new guys a day. If I go on more than 1-2 new dates a week I a) don't have time for my friends/hobbies b) lose the ability to become emotionally interested/invested in any of them which is the last thing I want to do. That puts us at about 21 possibilities for 2 potential date slots or under 10% (potentially less if someone is really exciting and I'm seeing them again).

So reddit, what's the right criteria that women should be using to choose men?
