(US) With the way things are going economically, Is there a larger group of families renting and/or sharing the same house?

I was just curious and thinking about the situation with my family. We currently rent an apartment which is nice and all, but I would love to be able to live in a house with a yard so my son can go run around in. Personally, I'd have no qualms about sharing a house with another family if it would keep costs lower.

Is it feasible for families to just rent and share a house together, kind of like roommates but with different families sharing the same house?
