Where do I start with Gene Wolfe?

I just ordered Shadow and Claw (First Half of Book of the New Sun), but I'm a little confused as to the order of everything. I understand it may not be exactly linear/may not be a correct order to read them in, but are there suggestions about how I should go? Do his books all take place in the same universe?

Thanks.
