Need Help with Chinese New Year Vacation Ideas

I was thinking about driving Highway 20 downsouth, however the word is that it's washed out never to be rebuilt.

Has anyone tried it recently (East to West or v.v.) walking, cycling, or driving?

What would you recommend doing with a week off? I've got licenses, so can rent anything anywhere, and have enough camping gear and experience to hike anywhere.
