Scratches and general maintenance questions.

Hey ski-it!

I've just brought my first pair of skis back from their first full week on the slopes. As expected, they've got a handful of scratches, some that are longish, but nothing too serious looking to my eye. I'll post some pics when I get home from work, but my questions are these:

Is there a general rule of thumb for how serious a scratch has to be before I need to repair it?

Are there any good tips for doing repairs & maintenance myself, inexpensively?

And, can anyone recommend any (preferably UK-based) websites or shops where I can get a good price on tuning and maintenance tools? Snow and Rock has an OK selection but it's quite expensive!
