BF has drinking problem and I’m confused by his actions. I don’t know what to do or what to think
I’ve been in a relationship with my BF for 4 months now. He and I are both 21 and we met on Bumble. I didn’t know at first that my BF had drinking issues.
For context, he is in the army and it’s quite normal for guys to drink heavily. Lately, I’ve just noticed he texts less and basically goes into these “depressive and silent” phases when he’s been drinking a lot.
Last week on Thursday (6/3) my BF suddenly removed me from his Snapchat with zero explanation. Prior to that, we had been talking on Tuesday (6/1) and things were fine. He’s sometimes busy with work and I wanted to talk to him and I asked if he was around the next few days. Then suddenly, on Thursday last week he removed me from Snapchat. We didn’t have any arguments or disagreements or any conflict at all.
I’m not blocked off his Snapchat, I can still see his profile, I’m just not able to send him snaps or see his stories.
I’ve been trying to contact him since last Thursday and I haven’t heard anything back. I’ve tried a variety of social media platforms as well as text and he’s not responding back.
I’m just wanting to know, is this a sign he’s in a depressive phase or is he trying to communicate that he’s dumped me? I’m so confused as he’s never indicated he wants to break up and really loves me.
I also wanted to mention that he had a nasty breakup last year with an abusive ex. This led to him drinking and sometimes he has nightmares about her and feels lonely and depressed.
He’s also had a history of getting so blackout drunk that he forgets he even has a gf. He apparently told someone he didn’t have one, and I confronted him about it and he said sometimes he gets so lost and lonely. Why is this?
I’m wondering if anyone has been in a similar scenario or had prior experience with this type of problem. I suspect he’s in a depressive phase but I’m not sure. I did post this same scenario on other subreddits just as an FYI.
What can/should I do in the meantime? I don’t want to lose him and it hurts. I’ve spent a lot of time crying and it’s hard. What should I do when he’s in a depressive state to help him?
