Sex offenders argue they shouldn’t be banned from hobby store

What a trash fire that must be
Somedays it is. I work with the mods to keep the board about the right topics:
A place where people charged or convicted of sexual offenses and their families can come for support and answers to questions best answered by people who have first-hand knowledge of the challenges they face.
We don't tolerate illegal behavior there.
We don't tolerate victim blaming there.
We even have our modlogs public so y'all can see what we see.
One guy posted a "sex offender" face tattoo design on a picture of Putin once to the sub... like we were going to rally behind that absurd idea.
I have never emailed the mods or hit the report button so fast in my life.
Jeez
I am sure that people who are being turned into servitors argue they should not be turned into servitors too.
Member of said sub, and obviously sex offender. I got alerted that this is being crossposted by u/McDuff_99 , so I'll take a crack at discussing my point.
In all seriousness, I appreciate y'all making a point to discuss how ridiculous it is that somebody convicted of a sexual offense against a child is indignant about a chain of stores directed toward children under 18 telling him he is not welcome to browse there in person.
Seriously.
Many sex offenders live in a vacuum of social isolation where questionable decisions like that are encouraged and enabled by those not understanding the significance of their loved one's actions in committing a sex offense against a child.
When I make a point like this, I have gotten accused as being "out of touch", "law enforcement", or "reactionary".
I'm not trying to excuse my own actions. I did the crime, I accept the punishment, I take responsibility. As someone who is a sex offender himself, my hope is to prevent further victims by speaking to those offenders on a level I know very few others can.
"OH ITS UNFAIR I CANT GO TO THE COMIC BOOK STORE"
"OH ITS UNFAIR IM ON THE REGISTRY"
"OH POOR ME"
ME ME ME. Not one mention that close to 100% of us have a victim we ought to consider in everything we say and do moving forward.
Posts like these are something for me to point to when chastising others as a treatment group facilitator.
It is very obviously not my crosspost, but I am very glad that community felt the need to cross post this.
Your comment is the only reason I knew this discussion was even happening. Had I known it was, I would've absolutely jumped into this discussion way sooner.
Thank you for that, actually.
You are welcome.
And as a business owner and a father I have a policy of not negotiating with terrorist. Sex offenders are the embodiment of an assault sex weapon terrorized in our neighborhoods, social events, kid events and stores. I stand by my statements, I don’t think that a sex offender has any business in a “hobby” store same as an arcade. Especially when today we have the internet, they can buy models online and even play tabletop online. No excuses, no exceptions, find another way to enjoy your “child’s hobby”

On that, I absolutely agree.
I’m glad you see it, and from your original comment I could tell you know what’s what. When subtly implying some sort of injustice being done by not allowing a sex offender to shop at a kids store. It’s really a long stretch for someone who is more than capable of supplementing their hobby by other means.
I mean even someone was ready to boycott said store from that sub. I mean as much fun it would be to see that crash and burn, let’s be real what is the real point to be made here.
I mean..... it's tough for a lot of people who are on the registry who either lack the social skills or wherewithal to really understand where to draw the line with being "supportive" (whether that contributed to their offense, i'm not getting into that lengthy discussion).
Alot of people have a hive mentality to begin with: sports teams, family, social circles, etc. And then committing a sex offense against a child or having a loved one who does that just throws everything out of wack with their social circles. So a tonnnnnnnnnnn of people take that hive mentality and take it to their new "team".
Being a "sex offender" is not a fucking gang, baseball team, or boy band group to redirect one's fandom to. I'll scream 'till I die.
I’ve worked in live music scene for a long time, and have seen people at their best and at their worst. We all like to think everyone has good intentions but that is simply not true. I wouldn’t put a friend whose an addict in the situation that one might relapse. Everyone that has dealt with addiction knows that a relapse can happen when least expected. So a sex offender trying to subtly imply that they are being oppressed by not allowing them near their “drug” of choice sounds the same as an addict wanting to attempt to go into old habits thinking they will not relapse.
You got the right train of thought. It's one of the major topics I discuss in treatment groups as a facilitator - knowing the "cycle" that led me to that point where I made a decision to commit my offense.
Which is not to say that doing drugs and molesting children are the same. Children are living beings that need to be protected, raised, nurtured, and all the proper synonyms associated with a healthy childhood.
Just not by me, or near me.
So you know I’m not targeting you or anyone in your sub. This is a discussion, and cool heads always prevail.
Right.
My thing with "taking this to the crosspost" is moreso to adhere to the rules of r/SexOffenderSupport which has a no debate, don't feed the trolls, no harassment rule, and also for the mods to not have to deal with more new faces debating/discussing things with people they clearly won't find common ground with.
For that reason, I have to be more tame there with my comments. Or else I would've put:
"ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME WHY WOULD YOU SUE A FUCKING TOY STORE FOR BANNING SOMEONE CONVICTED OF EITHER MOLESTING/RAPING CHILDREN OR POSSESSING MATERIAL DEPICTING CHILDREN IN A SEXUAL MANNER"
I can only give people the information, and let them make a decision on how to feel about, think on, or perceive a matter.

This one is very simple. Stores generally have the right to refuse business/entry from anyone they choose provided they are not doing it for a specific set of reasons that make them a protected class. At least that is how it works in America. I can ban some one from my store because I don't like purple clothes. I can ban them because I don't like people convicted of crimes. I can't ban them because of their sexual preference, their disability, their race, religion or sex... but other than that, I am free to.
Still waiting on u/radiant-reflection-5 to reply so cunningly as advertised in the original sub, that you best believe i put some words down on that post.
it's there.
Thread locked. Sex offenders are bad end of. Back to wargaming please folks!
User u/acejupiter123 is suggesting that kids don’t play warhammer due to video games and “not having the money” even though you see plenty of minors at games workshop and other hobby stores using the tables, painting, or at demos/events.
Please be aware that users like him and others may be frequenting hobby stores.
I don't know what rock he's living under, U18s are very much a target demographic for games workshop. See thier association with scouts, thier support for after school warhammer club, and warhammer adventures. Neckbreards may not like it but GW wants kids to engage in the hobby, and that store has a reason to keep nonces away
The discussion is being taken out of context.
A user asked if it was legal for a store to ban them. Advice was given that a business owner has the right to refuse services.
I in specific was discussing the fact that most people that buy Warhammer figurines tend to be adults with income larger than kids.
No the discussion is very much in context.
There are a metric fuck ton of kids in this hobby. Anyone that has been a part of war gaming/WH for any length of time knows this. Almost everyone that’s into it gets into it around 12-13.
Go be a pedophile/apologist somewhere else.
If cake decorators can refuse service to gay people then private businesses can refuse service to anyone.
It's a simple equation; the amount they would lose in terms of reputation and therefore wider sales if it became known is much greater than whatever said criminal would likely spend in their shop.
Again. A user asked if it was legal for a store to ban them. Advice was given that a business owner has the right to refuse services.
Nothing was said to the contrary.
Yes a business owner has the right to refuse service as they should in a hobby store that is very clearly Marketed to kids. Just because we are from generation that appreciates nostalgia like it’s a god, doesn’t mean that we are not adults enjoying a kids hobby, let’s be real.
Again, the conversation was taken out of context.
A user asked if it was legal for a store to ban them. Advice was given that a business owner has the right to refuse services.
No one said anything to the contrary.
No it is still very much in context. Yes most customers at these shops are under 18, and or supervised minors.
