Anytime I see a Scythe or Iron Harvest post I need to leave this fun fact.

The artist behind this work, Jakub Różalski. His work INSPIRED the creation of the game. A rare case where the art was decided before the rules or components.

He paints rustic Eastern European landscapes, farms, fields, villages. Then adds giant ass mechs or witches and shit. It's amazing.

Wasn't he accused of plagiarism for exactly this? As he had retraced other's art and mixed it together?

Oh, well, okay then.

Plagarism F.T.W?

3
Eric_the_BarbarianD20•

Since he is using art to create art, it would probably fall under "fair use." Unless he claims that it is wholly original.

3
MathiasMiD20•

I had not heard anything like that?

Yeah, he was making composites using photos and then painting over them without giving credit to the originals.

I might be wrong but as I recall scythe plagiarized the artist work but then decided to retain his services to make it right. This is second hand knowledge so correct me if that's not correct.

Well shit! I had no idea. Thanks for the heads up friends.

2
The_Gutgrinder•

So, basically Simon Stålenhag but Eastern European?

1
westparkmod•

And then if you want the board game version, there is Scythe.

57
CptnCumQuats•

Scythe is so fun! Just hard to get people willing to commit to such a long / deep board game

25
westparkmod•

What’s funny is if you asked some gamers what’s an average amount of time to sit and play a computer/console game, 3 hours is nothing. But to play a board game that long is unheard of.

10
CptnCumQuats•

Lol true but I play mainly with family members who are NOT gamers, so an hour and a half is a longggg game of settlers of Catan.

12
PandaBoi5555PlayStation•

Tbf it takes me and my family 8+ hours to complete a game of scythe

1
MathiasMiD20•

We are about to start the Legacy version!

7
SpawnSnow•

I have it both on the digital edition (no idea how faithful to the board game that is) and as a tabletop sim mod. Haven't found anyone willing to teach it yet though.

1
TheRhynocerous93•

My first thought looking at the artwork was "wow that reminds me of Scythe"

3
PandaBoi5555PlayStation•

I was just about to say the art looks really similar to scythe. Didn't know it had a video game as well

Like another comment said I would check reviews. The game looks amazing but it’s very clunky and there is ZERO depth to the game. It got old in just a few hours. I can pick up Company of Hero’s 2 and play with my friends for hours. Iron Harvest doesn’t have that. EDIT: to define clunky, it was horrible path finding issues. The giant mechs are fun but not if they get stuck in a small road between structures. They also move extremely slow for the overall pace of the game.

GrimFrame•

Think this post is an ad. Every comment is pretty much just the features of the game. I agree the game does not compare to CoH2 which is sad since 6 years later you'd think this would be everything good and more.

IJustQuit•

It had a decent advertising campaign way back and then a really lacklustre launch. When I see a game posted on here that's just a poster and a 'this game is great' it is 100% an ad.

Plenty of stuff on Reddit are well designed acts of advertising subterfuge, but this is just obvious. Reminds me of a thread calling for posts that were ads and SO many memorable posts over the years end up being from advertising agencies.

Edit: Plus further down OP literally has a sales pitch with links to all the aforementioned trailers and also touts the fact it's 50% off. Lame.

4
GrimFrame•

I remember the whole crazy levels on Kickstart and all that. I was tempted to commit back then because I heard it was supposed to be the new and improved CoH. Sad its down to pretend posts on Reddit as an ad.

The pathing alone killed the game for me. The large mechanical units get stuck on the tiniest of things and will take the dumbest route. You really need to micromanage the routes your units take.

Such a novel concept but the pathing and lack of depth and the pacing makes me frustrated and sleepy.

Deserts of Kharak was far more enjoyable for me. The multiplayer in both games is fairly boring though. I'm just speaking to the campaign.

looks cool enough (not a rts guy myself) but the steam reviews are probably worth a read before committing

1920+? They have a very specific age target, I'll have to wait a few more years to play then....

16
JayceeJC•

its 1920+ so anyone after the year 1920 and up can play. You're probably good

Don't tell my great grandma. She was really looking forward to this game, and I don't think her 102 year-old heart could take the news.

I would play the shit out of a Battlefield FPS in this world. Gimmie battle field 2142 but it's this world.

I am having blast playing Iron Harvest. This is my first RTS game in years and i like it a lot. Single player campaign is great because story is interesting and I enjoy watching cut scenes. The actors providing voice overs have done great job. The game has full voice overs in German,Polish,English and Russian. Tons of cool units, mechs, specializations. Beautiful graphics. Three campaigns plus one DLC campaign. Lots of value and replayability on 3 difficultly levels. If you have not played RTS game Iron Harvest is the one to try.

**There are 32 missions in single player Deluxe version. 21 Main campaign and 11 DLC **

Plus skirmish challenges

Plus multiplayer

if you are not familiar with the game

Synopsis of the game

After World War 1 farmers d a plethora of unexploded ordnance, barbed wire, weapons, shrapneland bullets while ploughing their fields. They called it the Iron Harvest. Iron Harvest takes place in the World of 1920+. It is an alternate version of the world created by Polish artist Jakub Różalski.

I played the beta for it and I enjoyed it then, I have sunken a lot of hours in to company of heroes 2 so this game is right up my street. I was put off by some minor things when playing it before and just never looked at properly again. I think it'll be a purchase for me next payday.

At least don’t make it so obvious that this is an ad.

2
Yell0wBeard•

I felt bad that my initial reaction was that this felt like an ad.... now I dont, ty.

Edit: And almost every single post is how awesome epic is.....

3
bitekrOPPC•

What is your point ? I did not mention Epic in op.. The game is available through Steam , Epic and GOG. You are more then welcome to buy it through any store. Naturally I chose Epic store as the deal is too good to pass.

-2
Yell0wBeard•

Do you just copy and paste this reply to everyone that calls you out about this?

2
IJustQuit•

Lmao 'you can buy this great game on any major online store where you get your usual gaming products!'.

Could you BE more of a marketing shill.

I get you gotta do your job man but this is a piss poor effort, up your game haha. I feel like you might not be clever enough to make it in your industry.

1
bitekrOPPC•

I had pop up message from the developers asking to review the game. I enjoy it so why not to spread the word. Seems like people are interested. There are way more upvotes than I expected

Cool game at first and cool concept, but got old pretty quick. There's not a lot of depth there. Even in the campaign, most of the time matches would just be "build the most of the 2-3 strongest mech's for that faction". Not much of a strategy there. Company of Heroes is an older game but does this type of RTS better.

5
VFXInCommercials•

Waiting for the console version. Will pick up then.

4
flipperflapper6969•

No joke the guys with the long legs remind me of tall boys from dishonored

4
bitekrOPPC•

You are absolutely correct. They look very similar in the game.

5
Yams_Garnett•

I'm sorry, what? The single unit on stilts? That isn't in the game on PC.

1
bitekrOPPC•

Dishonored.

1
Yams_Garnett•

Oh I misread that then. My bad. Thought for a minute they added those in and i missed it.

1
GoldenGanderz•

Ah, Iron harvest. The world that became mechanized and built giant robots, but never discovered the fucking wheel.

3
Yams_Garnett•

Have you not seen the steifmutter ?

2

It definitely has wheels in it.

dick_deck•

Another counter critic here. I can say the best part of the game is the story. Unfortunately to get through the story you have to go through the VERY poorly balanced campaign. Just got done with a mission where I had to suicide attack defensive positions, then wait 10 minutes for the resources to come back while the computer killed itself on one choke point I had rather well guarded. It was an absolute grind because of how fast my units would for in comparison on NORMAL difficulty.

Pathing is also not great, and what's even more frustrating is how your mechs make formations. They often spread out so it's easy to get one picked of even though you are moving them in a group, they can (if you micro them) stand shoulder to shoulder.

Defensive structures are usually out ranged by most units except basic infantry, so they're worthless. Infantry are very cost inefficient, so you just build mechs. And typically there is one mech that's just better than everything else so you just build that one thing.

With COH as a role model, this game should have been a lot better.

3
Citadelvania•

I'm interested but it just seems really expensive for the experience...

2
bitekrOPPC•

I bought through Epic store for about $27USD for Deluxe version with 3 main campaigns and 2 DLC campaign. I am 12 hours in and not even half way through second campaign. there is a lot of value in this game.

MAGICwhiteMICE•

Still waiting for it too come out for ps4 got delayed last year. :( sadness

2
AngryMegaMind•

I had a look at this on YouTube and meh!

2
Copaseticbob•

I was a backer before it went to steam and played it again when it was free for a weekend. It definitely scratched the RTS itch for me, but I couldn't commit to buying. They really need to balance that campaign more. It got to a point where it just wasn't fun to replay a mission for the 10th time, on easy, and just be absolutely stomped from 3 fronts again. I'd still highly recommend it for any rts fan.

2
bitekrOPPC•

Polish forces are rebels fighting overwhelming Russian forces. So you can expect onslaught of Russians in Polish campaign. Russian campaign is totally different. I save a lot and it helps.
