Nicotine concentrations will be capped to 20mg/mL after July 8th.

The Canadian federal government will be publishing guidance for the federal nicotine cap in their latest Canada Gazette Part II which is set to be released on June 23rd.

In there, we expect the latest Nicotine Concentration in Vaping Products Regulations to be released.

Based on this data, we expect the nicotine cap to come into effect on July 8th, 2021.

EDIT The date the cap will come in to effect is 15 days after the regulations come in to force, which would make the date July 23rd not July 8th :)

Saw this in the dash vapes email this morning. From what I understand this INCLUDES nicotine for DIY. What a huge pain in the ass. It was already annoying when they capped it at 65 mg/ml rather than the previous 100 mg/ml.
Fellow DIYers - how much are you planning on stocking up before the ban?

Keep in mind this limit is only for RETAIL sales. If you have a business number, you can technically buy at wholesale 100mg/mL :)

I do not :( I wonder how hard it is to get a business number or if it would be worth it. I just mix juice for my partner and I.

Just insane! If they cap nicotine base at 20mg/ml, I wonder how we're gonna mix 50mg/ml ejuice. How we're gonna find the right flavoring percentage with that much nicotine base?!

doom-cookieBC•

I don’t think that will be possible. I mix 10-15 mg and I dunno if I will be able to get enough vg in there with the flavours. Maybe dashvapes will release some sort of vg/pg mix of 20 mg/ml :/

yeah you just sent me a free nicotine for the mishap with the bottles, and I just bought one so I have almost 2 full bottles, should I order like anothe 5 or so to throw in the freezer?

2
Man_Bear_Beaver•

Yes! I have a two year supply, keep them in the freezer in a brown paper bag or just something that isn't see through so the light can't get to it.

I transfer to 60ml bottles, make sure to fill them so there isn't much oxygen left in the bottle.

Put in ziplock freezer bag.

Put in a cash/lockbox.

Stored like this I've had it last 3 years before it starts to really oxygenate, 4 years it starts to get really peppery.

if you use glass bottles with a good seal and fill the bottles all the way up nicotine should last 10 years

boston rounds + poly caps are popular for this

what exactly is the difference? vape shop vs gas station?

dashvapesOPwww.dashvapes.com•

The limit on the nicotine concentration is on retail sales only, as you still need to be able to buy higher concentrations at wholesale to be able to manufacture e-liquids without diluting the flavour too much.

so does that mean youll still be able to buy online?

This is such absolute BS. Gonna affect allot of people. I’m glad I’m not in that bunch with my >1mg but it’s gonna affect quite a few of my clients I mix for.

Just punched some number into ATF… the highest you can get for nic is 18mg. (Based on a recipe that uses 8.85% flavour)

Even using a 50/50 nic.. The highest vg i could get for that is 45. I’d hate the idea of using all vg nic but we may have to for those vaping at higher nic levels.

but if you have clients are you buying retail or wholesale?

Mother_Punker•

Retail. it’s just a part time gig I do from home. Lots of us mixers do. Given this though, I might have to consider getting a business number for it down the line. For now I’m just gonna stock up on 65mg and keep costs low as long as possible.

Would be nice if they had given ppl more notice. I can’t help but to feel for ppl that now have a month or so to wean down from 50 mg to 20.

to be fair, they announced this awhile ago that it was going to become law. it really sucks but im glad im down to 3mg. still, freebase is going to cost alot more now since we will be flying through bottles of it while mixing.

2
Mother_Punker•

I know. Optimistic me thought perhaps folks would kick up enough fuss to stop that lol.

Very true. That’ll be annoying.

i havent smoked in 10 plus years but lately took up vaping due to anxiety and stress, 35mg is my perfect amount, but thats so unfair to others. 20mg almost did nothing, and thats as a 'new' vaper.

3
dashvapesOPwww.dashvapes.com•

You can get a similar experience by increasing the power. Get a more powerful device and the 20mg will feel like the 35mg you are used to, but at much less nicotine.

Notveryawake•

While this has no effect on me since I normally make 0mg now and once in awhile a bottle of 1.5mg however I am never in favor of taking away options for people to quit smoking. I started with 12mg free base and worked my way down from there but for a lot of people that doesn't work and they need that higher nicotine punch at least when they first make the switch.

I would contact a US vendor. USPS,Fedex,UPS are stopping all shipments that contain vape products. Was supposed to go into effect in April, but is suspended for now IIRC.

As for the Canadian side of things, it might be difficult to bring in products now with the regs. It's not a clear statement from customs.

I guess we should be thankful they didn't tank the flavours. I am sure that is coming next though. At any rate I have bought some nicotine so I can at least have it in case that does come next. I am fine eventually going down to 20mg, I have already bought enough of the brands I like to wean me down to that anyways.

2
Man_Bear_Beaver•

I got enough 60mg for 2 years of mixing, I may grab another year worth around the start of July hopefully there will be sales, probably going to order a liter of my main flavours as well because you never know how that's going to go.

max_k20•

Glad I’m now on 3mg Freebase or 15-20mg Salt (depending on brands) but just alerted a bunch of friends to stock up since some or on 50mg still.

Time to stock up on 50ml pods before its too late

They are so stupid.

20mg/ml salt is only as strong as 8mg in freebase. They effectively just banned 8mg juice for being too "Strong"

They don't understand the substance they're fucking regulating.

-2
tet5uoCanada•

Seriously, look how much nicotine freebase you need and how much carboxylic acid is reacted with it to create the salt. The weight of one mole of salts is 2-3 times as much as one of freebase. Comparing them in mg/ml is stupid.
