Reminder: Rule 4) We are not an instagram feed
So we've been growing pretty fast over the last couple years so I thought it might be worthwhile to make a posting a reminder about how we run things on this sub. This is really just going to be a long-form version of what we have listed in the sidebar with a little bit more about why we have it set up this way.
Firstly I wanted to give a quick explanation about what u/guitarpedals_bot does on this sub. This bot makes a comment on every link post after 15 minutes if the OP hasn't added any additional info to their post by way of a comment. After another 15 minutes (30 mins total) the bot removes the post and amends its comment to say that the post was removed as per rule #4 and to message the moderators to have it approved.
Ok lets talk about Rule 4:
Rule #4) We are not an instagram feed
For image/video posts of your pedals, it is required that you write your thoughts in the comments to help get the discussion going
You need to write something of substance in your post when you make a New Pedal Day post.
- What do you like about it?
- What do you dislike about it?
- Why did you choose this one?
- What other options were you considering and why did you go with this one?
- Where do you have it in your chain any why?
And so on. Obviously you don't have to answer each of these questions in order to post. I write longer reviews in my NPDs because I genuinely enjoy it. You don't have to if you don't want to, but something more than "I've only had an hour with it but I really like it so far!" is preferable which brings me to:
If you've only just received a pedal, please wait until you've actually played it before making a NPD post.
Please. I get that you're excited about your new pedal, it's always an exciting time, but please don't post if you haven't actually gotten a chance to try the pedal out and can share some thoughts on it.
Lazy and off-topic posts will be removed at the moderators’ discretion.
Yep. Things we don't like to see are posters regurgitating info you can get from the sweetwater product page. Posting only the signal chain in full board pics is ok, but that's info that can usually be gleaned from just looking at the photo for a few seconds and doesn't actually tell us anything of substance about your pedals.
The flipside of this point is that we often see posts where the OP doesn't put a lot of info in an initial comment but then goes through and responds to every other comment talking about their setup and pedals in general and WE LOVE TO SEE THAT because it generates DISCUSSION. I almost prefer that to people who add a nice writeup but then don't respond to any of the other comments.
All this is winding up to the point that the THE THING THAT MAKES THIS SUB GREAT IS THE DISCUSSION THAT IS GENERATED IN THE COMMENTS TALKING ABOUT THE PEDALS, NOT PICTURES OF PEDALS.
We have it set up this way because we believe it strikes a nice balance between letting people show off their new toys, cool setups, fun sound clips, etc, while still being a good resource for people wanting to learn more about pedals.
Thanks for reading!
