What do you look for in a good IT Supervisor?

Just for some background, about a year ago I got promoted to IT Manager of a 400+ person company at 27 years old. I beat out a lot of people for this position, and felt slightly young to be given that responsibility, but I know my CIO and the rest of the company had the utmost trust in me.

About a year later, we have recently had the need to grow under me as our project scope was starting to become limited based on my availability. We hired a couple young and up and coming generalists who aren't really seasoned recently, but know a thing or two but are still raw and need a lot of work.

The point I am trying to make, and what I am curious what r/sysadmin thinks, is what makes a good IT leader/supervisor that you would want to stick around with?

My CIO has created a fantastic work environment, and our team really does love each other and have everyone's back, but it feels like he's letting go of his leash on me and trying to have me do the same with a department that is more geared towards engineering and innovation opposed to support.

I'd like to hear any good or bad experiences when you were working your way up to the sysadmin role, and possibly take some concepts from that. I was always really sharp with engineering and designing new systems, but I would really like to start making the transition to just being a good boss in general, which is a little cloudy at the moment and easily my biggest weakness.
