How much pay can you ask for?

I want to make more money, dish washing is hard as fuck. I enjoy the work but I've made more money doing other jobs that weren't as hard. Right now I make $16/hr in Portland Oregon as a dishie. Is it ridiculous for me to ask for $20/hr? Also I just got my first check and it's bullshit I don't get a cut of tips. Btw I'm badass in the kitchen (my boss said so)
