[Moderator Announcement] Monthly Project Thread – July: The Imperial Linetrooper’s Uplifting Primer
Monthly Project Thread
Every month we will put up a project thread with a focus on a major topic for the Dornian Heresy to encourage collaborative community input into over a sustained period of time. In our first one of these we will work on providing some grounding for the future direction and focus of the subreddit.
End Goal
Clearly for something as large as an entire Alternative Universe there is a lot of scope to work within and a lot of moving parts to focus on. The first thing worth mentioning is the ultimate end goal of the subreddit itself, beyond providing a community for likeminded hobbyists to enjoy the Dornian Heresy as a whole. This end goal is to work on the Dornian Heresy 2.0 Project.
Dornian Heresy 2.0 Project
The purpose of this project is to do for the Dornian Heresy Index Astartes Articles what the Black Library Horus Heresy Series did for the original set of norm-verse Index Astartes Articles, without the aid of a publishing company of course. To speak plainly, it is to flesh out the Dornian Heresy and take a deep dive into its various threads and plot points.
To go about this would involve a process of understanding how the content in the original set of norm-verse Index Astartes Articles informed the threads and plot points that are played out in the Black Library Horus Heresy Series. It would then involve a process of [Horus Heresy Comparison] between the original set of norm-verse Index Astartes Articles and the Dornian Heresy Index Astartes Articles, to identify the major threads and plot points that are hinted at and explicitly stated that should be expanded upon in a Black Library style Dornian Heresy Series – particularly noting those that mirror or parallel their norm-verse counterparts, and those that provide a great distinction to their norm-verse counterparts.
Completing the Original Dornian Heresy Index Astartes Articles
Before we can get to this point however, it must be acknowledged that the original Dornian Heresy is one of the great unfinished works and that as a community we should be empowered to faithfully provide an apocryphal take on the final Index Astartes Articles that would complete the original set of articles – these being for the Salamanders, Black Legion, Black Templars, and Death Guard Legions.
In order to provide a true point of completion for this particular portion of the overall project, I would hope an unofficial r/DornianHeresy community driven Dornian Heresy Index Astartes Volume II (that would contain the completed IAs that were never collated into their intended PDF), along with a Dornian Heresy Index Apocrypha Volume III (that would contain the reddit developed IAs that were never finished in the original project) could be developed and published as its own PDF document – a companion to the original Dornian Heresy Index Astartes Volume I from the B&C Legio Imprint.
Beyond the End Goal
Even though I started this Monthly Project Thread by stating an End Goal, clearly as a subreddit it will continue to evolve and grow and new projects will emerge as nothing should remain static.
After completing the Dornian Heresy 2.0 Project it would be great to place a focus onto Dornian Heresy 40k – first in the WH40k classic era that essentially lasted from 1993-2016 when it was in its largely static “setting” mode of constantly being a minute to midnight in M41; and secondly looking as the post Gathering Storm era from 2017-Now which focuses on the Great Rift era.
Finally, a Thank You
When I launched this subreddit close to a fortnight ago I was always going to be happy just to have had even 1 Member in the community let alone the 350+ redditors that are Members of it today! I had a plan to fill the sub over a period of weeks with relevant content from across reddit and from the B&C to build up the content and develop interest over time – instead I continue to be surprised at the great community contributions that pop up on the sub every day, much of it being more than I could imagine and of such a great quality too! In particular, I want to make special shoutouts to some of the subreddit’s most active users for their contributions from the very first day: u/RandomUser1914, u/soulhunter1995, & u/Solid_Hydration.
Community Challenge
In aid of this Monthly Project Thread, The Imperial Linetrooper’s Uplifting Primer, what else would you like to see happen as a result of this subreddit? What do you think is the best way to go about completing the original DH IAs? What parts of the DH 2.0 Project are you excited to explore?
