How do you manage expectations and projects? (First time home owner)
We closed on our 100+ year old house (1,300sq ft) in September of 2020. We took a week to fully clean the house and seal the Michigan basement because it was a mess with lots of spiders. We immediately took out and replaced the floor in the kitchen and bathroom because it had cracked tiles. Next, we redid the kitchen (still need backsplash) and are in process of finishing bathroom (new vanity, board and batten, wallpaper). We’ve also painted almost every room and I’ve caulked the trim in 3 of the downstairs rooms. We removed stair carpet and have painted them but still need a runner. Also striped paint off the stair trim, but still need to do finer sanding before staining. In the yard we had to get trees removed and payed to get a fence done. We’ve cleared some of the unruly brush (river vines are everywhere), got a fire pit to start burning things, but haven’t done a ton more in the yard (grass still patchy and weedy). These are all in addition to sourcing furniture and finding decor.
I love projects and am excited to be doing all these things — I constantly have new ideas I want to get to, so I feel like I am not doing enough or using my time wisely. Anyone else feel this way? How much is realistic to accomplish in the first year? Also how do you manage projects and general household management/cleaning? Sorry this is all over the place — feeling a little overwhelmed.
