Biking Montréal <> Ottawa

Hey! I'm looking to bike from Montréal to Ottawa in the coming weeks (then stay there a few days, then bike back). Planning 2 days/1 night for each way. I've found a little info on the internet - including this reddit thread from 2015 - and a couple of other blog posts and all, but none super recent.

I'm still planning my route a little, and was wondering if anyone has done it recently and has tips on routing, places to stay, etc. In particular:

• Is it nicer to ride North (Québec) or South (Ontario) of the river?
• Google maps defaults to suggesting the Prescott-Russell recreational trail, which at first looks perfect, but the reviews on maintenance are mixed and general enthusiasm seems so-so
• There's also the cycl-o-route which looks interesting, at least for most of the central part, but its yet another option and I haven't found recent reviews.
• Any nice spots to stay roughly half-way? (open to either camping or bed & breakfast-style places)

Basically, I'll probably figure this out somehow, but any tips/input much appreciated. Happy to report back afterwards, too. Merci!
