Looking for personal experiences with weight gain while on antidepressants
Recently after a stent of weight gain (+25 lbs, yay) I have decided to switch to a slow cut to regain some ab definition and other things stemming from vanity and I'm now back down to roughly 10-12% BF. Also, a few months ago my doctor suggested that getting on antidepressants may be a good idea. I initially shut it down, but over the past couple of months and some further research on my own, I have considered that maybe it wasn't the worst idea in the world. So I now have an appointment with the same doctor to discuss some options.
I know a common side effect can be weight gain, which for most people is considered a problem. But considering my long-term goal is gaining weight, this may have more benefits than just mental. I plan on talking to my doctor specifically about this, but based on the lack of scientific articles I could find online, I wasn't too hopeful I'd be able to get specifics. Anything I could find on the cause of weight gain and antidepressants tends to boil down to:
- Unrelated to the actual drug and is just aging
- Unrelated to the actual drug and eating regularly again as you get out of a depressive state
- We don't know
I'm wondering if any of you have any anecdotal experiences with weight gain on antidepressants and what kind of weight you can put on. If I can just "lean into it," embrace the weight gain, and build muscle, then that's the best of both worlds. But if the only type of weight I would be putting on would mainly be fat, then I might need to reconsider my diet and exercise routine.
I'm hoping that because I'm purely after anecdotal evidence, that this wouldn't constitute medical advice... but I can see how I'm definitely toeing the line. If this does cross over just let me know and I can delete the post.
So if anyone has personal experience with this I would be grateful to know how it went.
