Will my computer be tracked by the university?

Hi, New to reddit here. My University was getting new computers and me being a broke college kid and first year of college jumped on getting one of the old computers they were throwing out. It was from the mid 2000s, and I was wondering if they will be able to track the computer on the University Network and /or off from my home network. I intend to factory reset it and use it for my intro to C and C++ classes. Nothing fancy that my phone would otherwise do. And thank you!
