Confessions of a Siege Addict: A Thread Meant for Discussing the decline of Siege
Hello, everyone.
My name is Josh, though my gamertag is CallonAzuli4968.
I have played Siege continuously, damn near every single day, for the last 3 and a half years.
I started playing Siege back in Y3S3, Operation Grim Sky. For less knowledgable individuals, that season introduced Maverick and Clash, as well as one of the first Mid-Season Events, the Mad-House Halloween event.
Since I started, I have logged 1,618 hours of Siege. I've reached level 308. I've gotten as high as Plat III in that time, an accomplishment I still remember fondly to this day.
. . .
Before I go on, I want to point out that I am a Console Siege Player. I've played all of those hours solely on Xbox One. I have played through multiple Clash glitches, DDoS attacks, and enough MnK and Strike Pack assholes. I know Siege at its lowest on Consoles.
. . .
I am addicted to Siege. Since I started playing, I have spent damn near $1000 on Elite Sets, R6 Credits, and cosmetic packs. Even now, I'm planning on getting the most recent Mozzie Elite Set because I love supporting this game.
Siege has been my favorite game to play since I first watched Achievement Hunter play the game.
But even I, an adamant Ubi defender, can understand this game is going downhill. Like, a lot.
It started in Phantom Sight (Nøkk & Warden), when the major map reworks, kinda iffy gadget abilities, and it was one of the peaks of online play. It was at this point I believe Ubisoft began working on Rainbow Six: Quarantine.
At this point, the quality in game fixes, nerfing, and attention towards console play steadily became more apparent. I can't be upset though, Ubisoft began working on a new game when their current FPS title was popular at 50 million worldwide players and fans were clamoring for a full-game version of Outbreak.
But once Quarantine went into production, it was announced, and suddenly Y6 rolled around in the middle of a pandemic, and Ubisoft continued to have what I can only assume was half their team working on Extraction while the other half was working on Y5 and Y6, that's when I started to realize how many mistakes were made, on both Ubisoft's and our (the community's) parts.
To explain, I feel as if Quarantine didn't go into production when it did, we would be much better off with the proper bug fixes, operator tweaks and nerfs, and anti-cheat. While I can understand why Ubisoft made this decision. I'd probably make the same decisions myself.
But as for the community, I have to say I am extremely ashamed and embarrassed to be a part of this community, especially with all of the people continuing to berate Ubisoft for many, many things that are broken with the game.
For a while, I was on Ubisoft's side, knowing full well why a lot of the broken stuff wasn't on purpose.
Look, I agree the community is right to call out Ubisoft on their mistakes. What I can't condone is the inherent rudeness I've seen in this community.
If you have a problem with Ubisoft, you have every right to voice your opinion. But there are MUCH better ways to get your message across.
Let me provide an example:
Problem: Mouse and Keyboard on Console has become a major issue on Console, and Ubisoft can't directly counter them due to it being a console issue
Solution: add Mouse and Keyboard Support, improve detection for MnK users, and provide lobbies and servers to place MnK users against one another
Reasoning: With the addition of Mouse and Keyboard support on consoles, players who use MnK will be found easier and can be more accurately placed against players using similar devices, giving each player a more balanced game session
Drawbacks: More MnK players on Consoles, longer queue times
See? Its easy! State your problem, state your proposed solution, give adequate reasoning, and explain you understand the potential drawbacks to the change.
No one needs to be a dick.
. . .
Look, I've played this game for years and I have my own problems with it. I love this fame despite its flaws. I know I'm addicted to the game, and I don't plan to stop playing.
I just wish people weren't so fucking toxic towards Ubisoft. It does nothing but make the situation worse unless you provide a solution that could help them in the long run.
If you want to help, then help. If you just complain, you only make the situation worse.
Stop being jerks. If you hate the game, leave.
