Pre-paid funeral arrangements not being honoured

A family member just passed away. In order to make things easier for us, she had all her arrangements pre planned and purchased. We have all the bills with proof, including signatures from the owners.

One smaller company was bought out by another company, but uses the same phone number and address. This was not a company that went under bankruptcy, but it was a story of, the guy retired, and someone else bought it.

I called them today about the arrangements and they will not honour the pre-paid arrangements and want us to pay again even though we have the bill of sale.

Is this even legal? What can we do? It is a large sum of money. They won’t even offer us a credit for what was paid for.
