How do I block a subreddit so as to totally avoid its content?

I am tired of seeing posts from subreddits i am not interested in on my trending page. I can’t stand political subreddits such as r/politics, r/conservatives, r/pics etc. Unfortunately I cannot see the option to block them and I would be very grateful if someone can help me know how to do so.
