What is the fast/street food like in your world.
Title says it all. What would I grab in your world if I was hungry in a pinch.
To start, several of Otherlands’ cultures have street food.
As for famous dishes...
Orcs are known for their flatbreads and dumplings if you’re eating on the fly. What you’ll find depends on where you are in the Orcish nations. In a coastal town, you might find chunks of wolf squid (the in-world name for the humboldt squid), baitfish, and shrimp fried in a gloopy batter to make fritters. If you’re in Ur’haala (the Orcish capital in the steppes), you’ll find flatbreads topped with smoked boar/bison, crumbly cheese, and various accompaniments. In the north, you might have pulled cockatrice dumplings served with wild greens.
In the human port city of Særstrond, you might find baskets of spiced shrimp, small crab/lobster rolls, or even a gunpowder soup vendor (a rich seaweed/dashi soup with squid and smoked, spiced fish scales). In the winter, you’ll indulge yourself with a hot milk, tea, and honey beverage in port cities (where the it comes off the boats)
In elven cities, lots of fresh, artistically presented food is common. Even in street stalls. You may find moonroot (a clear, blue starch) noodles with local meet, greens, and a wild pepper sauce or spiced berry bread. In cambion cities across the sea, sweets and exotic spices are cheap on the trade routes. Lokum, truffles, curried meats, and spicy fried vegetables are all common affairs.
