HELP - Cancer patient needs new mattress (ON, Canada)
Hi folks,
hate to put the hat out but I'm desperate. Does anyone here work for one of these "100 days and if you don't like it, we'll give it to someone in need" companies, like Endy or Casper? I'm dealing with a situation where I need to establish a relatively sterile environment for someone whose immune system has collapsed and turned against them. They have no defense against any pathogens and I'm very concerned about this person returning to the bed they were using before they went into hospital.
If I had the money I'd buy it myself, but I've been without an income for some time and am trying to live a subsistence lifestyle without any government assistance... and right now i'm regretting it for this reason: no buffer.
Our patient isn't picky, so I'm hoping there's someone local that bought one and decided it was too small/big or too firm for them and I can simply pick it up.
There's an unanticipated time limit to this (more or less needs to be figured out by this weekend), and this is why I'm reaching out like this. I'm hoping that in the legions of mattress fans, someone in here will have the information I need to get this poor chap a nice place to recover and endure his treatments without risking skin infections.
I have the ability to sanitize a more or less new mattress but I don't have the ability to unsleep an ancient one.
Any help or direction would be very much appreciated. Also, if there are any programs in Ontario for assisting cancer patients with these sorts of costs, I'd appreciate that info, too.
Asking for handouts is literally the hardest thing for me to do and dealing with cancer, covid, and isolation has left me a bit out of practice and stressed to make a compelling case, but hopefully the despair comes through loud and clear.
Thanks for any assistance you can offer!
