Hard drive no longer working

Open | Hardware

I was using my pc the other day and suddnetly it became very slow, I had been wanting to open it up and clean the case, so I shut it down safely and the next day cleaned the case, today I turned it on and it was stuck on the windows boot screen, eventually I managed to narrow it down to one of my drives being an issue and causing the startup process to get stuck. When I have managed to get the pc to boot with this drive in it isn't detected anywhere except for in the bios, and there it isn't even listed under boot order. It definitely wasn't damaged in the cleaning process, and I have a feeling it stopped working when the pc became slow the first day. Can anyone give any advice on this? It didn't have any issues before this, and it seems a bit strange that it would stop working so suddenly with no 'warning' it is a fairly old drive that I was given so it's not impossible. The motherboard and bios are HP. Currently I'm trying to use their wipe software but getting the pc to boot with this hard drive is in is an issue and when it is it hasn't detected the drive. Sorry for the very long post but there's some important stuff on the drive. Thank you in advance
