Bad performance on Far Cry 5 with RTX 3070
So, I've recently started playing Far Cry 5 co-op with a friend (Picked it up for $7.50 on sale recently), and I also managed to get my hands on an RTX 3070 (It came off a HP omen prebuilt). So, its some sort of HP branded RTX 3070. A family member needed a new desktop so I bought the prebuilt for them but swapped out my 1070 for the 3070 since the most they ever do is minecraft.
Anyway, I have a 1440p 144hz monitor and reading through, I should be getting about 115fps with my RTX 3070 on 1440p ultra settings in FC5. However, this is not the case most of the time. In very specific areas I do hit that mark, but in 99% of the game world (Where those benchmark videos take place), I'm lucky to get over 60fps, and it oftentimes dips into 40fps and sometimes lower.
The interesting thing here is that even dropping the resolution to 1080p, or setting the resolution scale to 0.5, only yields about 5-10fps improvement, but oftentimes it still dips below 60. This below holds true regardless of whether I'm on low or ultra settings.
I was wondering if anyone has run into this issue before and might know why the performance is so oddly subpar. I'm tempted to think it's a driver issue, but maybe it has something to do with the way HP modifies their own branded GPUs.
Subnote: GPU utilization shows 26-30% in task manager but ~80-90% in MSI afterburner, temps never go above 72C on the GPU. I have a 750W PSU from Corsair, so power shouldn't be the issue. I'm also running a Ryzen 1600X, but I figured at 1440p it shouldn't present a noticeably bottleneck.
EDIT: So I ran DDU again and removed the GPU drivers, and rather than reinstalling geforce experience or reinstalling the latest driver from nvidia manually, I let windows handle it. Performance seems to have improved, as performance didn't seem to drop below 60fps anymore, especially in areas which had me drop to 30 frames before. I'm wondering if anyone else with similar specs to my own can confirm that this is expected performance?
