Using Credits

I rarely use credits in the series and seem to end each game with what seems to feel like a million credits. I'm wrapping up ME1 on Insanity. What could I use them for in the other two games during my Indanity run? The only weapon that I can remember buying is the Widow. I know some research can be bought. Any suggestions on what to buy to make the experience less stressful?
