Fussy Yorkie Advice

Hi, hopefully you guys won’t mind me invading your subreddit. I’m not a groomer but a lurker with a four month old pupper and boy oh boy am I struggling with hun. Right now I am using n earthbath spray for detangling and a BaByliss pro pet come. I’ve tried other products as well but these are the main two I’ve used.

My dog is fine with looking at a come, licking a comb, but if it comes near him he bolts. No food reward is worth it. No praise is worth it. I can’t even brush him with the back of my come to desensitize him. So far I’ve been working to get him to slowly become more tolerant and honestly - I don’t see it happening. Especially now that knots have built up. When I do work at a knot I start at the end and work up, while holding the knot at the base. It’s hard to do because he squirms and thereby makes it painful but I try. What’s even more concerning for me right now is his face. He has pretty bad tear stains and even if he had someone else holding him he won’t let me wipe them away with dog wipes, or even my bare hands. It’s to the point where I’m worried he will injure himself. I’ve tried doing it when he’s tired, just woken up, or before and after a walk. No time seems ideal.

I love him. I actually enjoy brushing him and already devote half an hour of my day to trying (initially started in 3 minute bursts throughout the day but now trying 15). Tbh honest I don’t even mind the idea of him getting shaved down if that’s what’s best for him. Which brings me to you guys. Do you have any advice? Should I stop torturing my dog and take him to get shaved down and if so how often should I do that? If there a way to get him to let me clean his poor face? How can I get him to let me brush his face/stomach? Am I being too impatient?
