My little cousin brought home a snail from the beach, what do I do?

He brought this living snail home, not with the intention of caring for it but just because he’s 8 and kids do shit like that. The snail is small and dark brown…. Rly just a very normal average looking snail that you’d find on a Massachusetts beach.

What I’m curious about is will I have to drive back to the beach tomorrow to release it, or can I just put it in the lake?

If I do have to bring it there tomorrow, will it even survive the trip? Like how much water do they need?
