Pen Names and Copyright

I recently decided to make business cards to reach more customers and want to use a pen name for the cards and all of my artwork. If I register one of my artworks to the copyright office under a pen name is that enough to basically have that name be "protected" or legit for use for all my work? I'm a bit confused on how copyright works with pen names, so any help would be appreciated.
